- Abstract
- This study is a sociological, psychological study of the impact of lost land, lost lives of the Eastern Band of Cherokee. It provides a reflective look at both the government's and religion's role in this process. It helps bring clarity to Native religion/spirituality and Christian understanding of manifest destiny. It gives an overview of the social dynamics at work to dislodge Natives from their home, their land while describing this history in the Trail of Tears. Lastly, the study was taught in two classes with Native and non-Native participants to measure present day historical, social, psychological and theological understandings of this history of Native People.
