Abstrait

The purpose of this project was to test, through a series of narrative sermons, the capacity of narrative preaching to convey Christology through indirect communication. In the theoretical section, the nature of narrative as a means of social and personal change is described. An extensive theoretical chapter examines narrative from a theological, biblical, and sociological point of view. Another chapter describes how the action phase of the project unfolded. It includes brief description of the sermons, as well as the process by which the evaluative instruments were determined. The overall conclusion of the project is that these particular narrative sermons were not as effective in conveying faith-learning, particularly Christology, as a more traditional, mixed style of preaching. However, there was some indication that younger hearers, and those less involved in regular worship tended to respond more positively to the narrative sermon series.
