- Abstract
- The Augustinian directed retreat is a private retreat in the manner of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola. It is the result of a comparison between Augustinian and Ignatian spirituality. The framework of the retreat is similar to that of the Jesuit retreat. The spirit is Augustinian. The differences in approach are explained. Methods of meditation and a particular examen entitled Kingdom Awareness Exercise are presented in detail. There are eight chapters in this report: 1. background, 2. Augustinian spirituality, 3. the project, 4. Augustinian directed retreat, 5. Augustinian methods of meditation, 6. 'kingdom awareness exercise', 7. what goes on at a directed retreat, and 8. the future.
