Boot Camp: A Basic Membership Training Program was a ministry project proposed and developed for the members of the Saint John African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) of Birmingham, Alabama. The project's scope was to lead parishioners in a survey of the AME Church's doctrines, discipline, and membership responsibility. Participants were engaged through a series of eight seminars, four sermons, and a retreat. They averaged fifty-minutes in eight seminars, twenty-five minutes listening to four sermons, and forty-five minute sessions in the one half-day retreat. Evaluation instruments were administered for assessing the project director's effectiveness, participants' retention, and value of the material.
