- Abstract
- For the woman in pastoral counseling the challenging process of becoming more fully human as was Jesus is the foundation of her ministry to and with others. Scenes from a woman's case present conflicts in cultural roles. The paper explores myths and roles regarding woman in the ancient past and God's promise for humankind in the Old and New Testaments and in the historical church. It looks at male and female role models in the predominantly male profession of ministry. In Jesus woman finds the fully human being in God's image. He is the individuated, integrated being who is the role model for woman as well as man. Two case studies furnish examples of woman as pastoral counselor. She becomes prophet as well as servant, enabler and nurturer, the wounded healer for, and with, others. In reconciliation woman contributes toward healing and wholeness of all humanity in responsible partnership with man. The Spirit in us calls each person to grow, to become the true self created in God's image.
