- Anxiety seems to be viewed in our world as a destructive curse which needs to be eliminated. Existential and theological positions allow the possibility that experiences of anxiety can be calls to wholeness. A perspective of diagnosis and treatment is presented that is inclusive of the truths of the biological, behavioral, and cognitive modalities, as well as the existential and theological positions. Each of these theories is surveyed. A case study is presented as a model of the progressive perspective. Finally, intimacy in relation to God, others, and self is introduced as a theological response to anxiety.
