  • The objective of this paper is to use narrative therapy to determine the alternative stories and knowledge of United Methodist people who have ministries with and by gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons. Alletzhauser interviewed active United methodists in local church ministries as a participant observer using open-ended and narrative therapy questions. The results demonstrate how stories of Support circulate in local churches despite denominational policies and statements of Non-support. The results also indicate the ways in which participants dissolve the problem of spiritual violence against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons by choosing to live in preferred Support relationships.
