Abstract
  • God uses the preached word to form a prophetic witness. Through reviewing sermons preached over four years and interviewing individuals in the congregation, the author researched how what has been preached at Mount Vernon Place United Methodist Church has impacted what is being done and who is being served by the congregation. Just as God uses people throughout the scriptures to offer a word of divine love and a call to justice, God continues to employ the preacher to help shape and mold people into a prophetic witness.
