  • This project tests in five congregations the significance of the canonical approach to the interpretation of scripture. The researcher designed a curriculum on the canonical approach advocated by Brevard Childs. Questionnaires tested the clergy and laity before and after the intervention of the approach in preaching. Results indicated that out of 20 questions for the clergy no significant changes took place. With regard to 10 questions for the laity two showed a significant change. People expressed a greater interest to study the Bible for themselves and to disagree with the pastor's use of the Bible in preaching.
