  • The study explores sources of stress relationships. Interviews with forty-four Homestead Presbyterian pastors and spouses revealed that their marriage relationships were generally healthy, and that where problems arise the causes are seldom from the clergy job or other external forces, but stem principally from internal attitudes and expectations of self and others. From the studies a manual was written to provide guidance to committees on ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in nurturing and supporting pastors and spouses. The conclusions were supported through research of appropriate literature, interviews with specialists in the field, and responses to a survey from ten of sixteen committee on ministry chairpersons in the Synod of Lakes and Prairies.
