  • This project uses the Psalms to develop a death and dying ministry for the local church. Brueggemann's 1984 work on the Psalms is compared to modern grief theory and used to develop a sermon series and Bible study. The range of emotions expressed in the Psalms parallels the emotions experienced by a person facing death. Congregation pre- and post-tests were administered to measure changes in anxiety. Interview instruments were developed to measure the effectiveness of the sermons and Bible study series. Evaluation of the project showed that while anxiety levels were not significantly changed, participants developed more clearly defined feelings about the subjects of death and dying.
