Abstract
  • Through the employment of social research instruments the project endeavored to enhance the effectiveness of preaching communication by testing the hypothesis: the identified cognitive style preferences of sermon listeners influence the reception of varied preaching approaches. The project's hypothesis was supported. Diversity in the design and delivery of sermons increased the effectiveness of preaching communication with listeners of differing cognitive style preferences. Dissimilar sermon delivery styles differed substantially in their degree of appeal to persons with contrasting cognitive style preferences. How contemporary neuropsychological findings have affected communication theory were explored. A theological conceptualization of human communication was formulated.
