  • Busyness is an epidemic in our culture. In order for the church, specifically the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the author's context, to assist believers in slowing down and developing spiritual disciplines of listening, prayer, and discernment, church leaders must first model these deeper relationships, resisting the temptation to have church life reflect the busyness that seems to have become the norm rather than the exception. In her research, the author found that real change would not happen through additions to the program or special events, but rather required changes throughout the life of the church -- administration, worship, and education.
