- The thesis of this project is that the Reformation doctrine of the ministry of the laity is valid today, especially in the form of a paid lay church staff. The project reviews the biblical, historical, theological, administrative, and modern-day applications of this doctrine. The author interviews lay and clergy staff and distributes questionnaires to congregations at six midwestern Presbyterian Churches. The conclusions of the project and demographic studies show that the trend towards more paid lay church staffs will accelerate. The model and theory of this proposal can be defended and promoted, although it threatens some.
