Abstract
  • This dissertation-project develops and provides critera for the evaluation of interpersonal communication courses suitable for use in the adult education program of a parish. Five guidelines comprise the primary criteria. They are: 1. does the course provide helpful tools for meta-communication; 2. does the course provide opportunity for interaction, lead to engagement, and allow for transformation; 3. does the course enable and encourage hope; 4. is the course synergistic; and 5. does the course provide for the building of trust sufficient to meet the level of threat to be experienced by participants. The author used the criteria to evaluate the course Couple Communication I (Interpersonal Communication Programs, Inc., Minneapolis, Minnesota).
