  • Overweight adult Christians participated in an eight-week focused support group. Twenty-one questions guided discussions. Pre and post assessments were administered. Prochaska and DiClemente's definitive research on motivation and Stages of Change provided tools to measure progress. Objectives were to increase motivation to make more healthy food choices, increase awareness of relationship between Christian faith and the problems of overweight and obesity. Motivation to lose weight increased. Participants reported greater awareness of the connections between food habits and faith. The majority of participants lost weight.
