  • This study was conducted in order to detemine the causes of the rapid numerical growth of South Coast Community Church of Irvine, California. The church has increased from a new work in August of 1980 to 10,000 participants by August of 1985. Its growth has come about largely through the extraordinary ability of pastor Tim Timmons to communicate to young, unchurched middle-class Americans and the church's highly organized commitment to forming small group ministries to meet the various needs of those who attend the church. The study suggests ways in which other pastors and congregations can adapt the methods employed by pastor Timmons and his church with reasonable expectations for accelerated growth.
