  • In a post-Christian context, a congregation's viability depends upon the capacity of its laity to approach ministry with a theological imagination framed by the scriptural themes of the church's missionary nature. The author explored the implications of missional ecclesiology for leadership and the connection between leadership and imagination. The author formed and led a six-month group for lay leadership development in which participants considered claims of missional ecclesiology vis-a-vis the congregation's context. He also led the congregation's nominating body to engage group participants in key leadership roles, showing that the congregation's ministry focus changed significantly through the group's influence.
