- Abstract
- This project explores a possible link between women's dissonance with God images and their participation in congregational life. Women from the area of greater Trenton, New Jersey, between the ages of 25 and 39 who are not active in church are enlisted as a focus group. The group format includes guided meditation, personal drawings of God images, and a survey to compare narrative information from women no longer active with that of women currently active in a United Methodist congregation. The project does not establish a link. Both focus groups express dissonance with the church's God images while maintaining continuous internal God-imaging. This dissonance causes some women to feel uneasy about themselves and religious language is diminished among inactive women.
