  • The author aimed to compose a practical curriculum for those who lead worship in song, primarily in Chinese-speaking church contexts. The author sought to identify the needs of worship leaders within the Chinese-speaking church, to help students understand biblical mandates and instructions regarding the use of music in worship, and then guide them in using those principles to both evaluate material from other cultures and develop material grounded in and suitable to their own. The author constructed a curriculum to these ends and taught it at various Mandarin-speaking churches around the world beginning in 2005. The author found that the materials presented were helpful, but that for full integration of the principles into regular worship practice, instruction needed to be extended over a longer period of time.
