The purpose of this ministry research project was to create a program of recovery for young adults whose parents had been divorced. Four experiential small groups were conducted in the development of the program sponsored by the Immanuel Baptist Church of Lexington, Kentucky. The methodology was largely intuitive, integrating the life experience of the author and psychological and theological literature. The stated goal was to guide young adults toward emotional and spiritual healing within the small group context. The series of instruction and support was designed to help adults identify connections between experiences of parental divorce and present relationship difficulties. Biblical materials dealing with divorce and related pastoral care issues were explored to provide foundation, context and themes for this ministry. Out of these themes came the five sessions of the adult child of divorce workshop. One conclusion was that small group dynamics are crucial to the healing process.
