  • The purpose of my Doctor of Ministry project is to explore one question: 'Why is it that so many young people will drive hundreds of miles, maybe even thousands, to go to the next Phish (a musical group) concert, but they won't drive a mile to the center of their town to go to church?' I propose that a Phish concert experience is offering people something that they are not receiving in the local church. Young people, particularly those of Generation X (those born between 1961-1981), are noticeably absent from the church. I will explore the idea that Phish and their fans can teach those of us in the church a few things about becoming more inviting and hospitable to those of the younger generation.
