  • The narrative first person sermon is an effective and faithful method of presenting the gospel. Employing this sermon form, the preacher re-tells a biblical story through the voice of a central character or contemporary observer. This essay investigates the kinds of biblical material that may be suitably presented as a narrative first person sermon, suggests some guidelines for choosing story and character, and details the process of composition and delivery. Eight examples of narrative sermons follow, a series entitled Witnesses to the Week of Passion.
