  • Using a 'hermeneutic of reframing' born out of a relational-incarnational theology, the author explores the issues of spiritual maturity, power and authority as they relate to women in church leadership. She challenges male and female clergy to work in partnership to reframe biblical and church tradition to see women's power in a positive light. A study of the clergywomen heading congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia yields an understanding of competency in ministry which is based on an androgynous view of spiritual maturity and power and authority which applies to both male and female clergy.
