Evangelism without relationships is a contradiction in terms. As understood and practiced in the local church evangelism is in critical condition. Evangelism is an unfriendly word. Leadership's challenge is to discover and implement a fresh approach. Bethany Church, located in growing southern New Hampshire, developed a strategy stressing disciple-making rather than decision-making. Using community assessment and a congregational survey, Bethany created a paradigm to reclaim the evangelistic enterprise by: expanding the vision; equipping the people; targeting the audience; and incorporating the newcomer. A resurgence has resulted which makes evangelism a friendly word, generating feelings of confidence, grace and love.
