- This paper describes a comprehensive stewardship model for converting consumption into generosity in the local church by regarding stewardship as gospel rather than law. Developed by the Episcopal Church as the 'Alabama Plan,' subsequently revised, and tested in two United Methodist churches, this model involves congregants in a stewardship event whereby they identify, share and revise their personal stewardship stories in the light of Scripture study and therein make their personal stewardship decisions. Led by a district superintendent/consultant, this experienced-based stewardship event can be a catalyst for converting the motives as well as the act of giving.
