  • This ministry research project responded to the lack of qualified individuals to pastor churches in northern Japan. A mentorship program to train laity to preach in the context of the local church is an effective way to realize lay potential. Biblical and theological principles that undergird an attempt to equip the laity were delineated. Insights were gleaned from anthropology that inform efforts to communicate the gospel cross-culturally. The case study method was employed. Equipping laity is risky and time-consuming, and results are not always immediately apparent. But the key to unleashing the church is liberating the laity.
