- This dissertation/project explores the shared stories of clergy persons, their families, and lay persons involved in cross racial/cultural ministry in the United Methodist Church. Cross racial/cultural ministry is defined as those persons who are members of one ethnic group in ministry to those of another ethnic group within the context of a local church. Cross racial/cultural ministry offers the United Methodist Church through its theological tradition of an inclusive ministry (John Wesley's catholic spirit) and appointment-making process (church assignments) a unique opportunity to be faithful to the gospel of Christ Jesus, where 'there is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither slave nor free; there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus' (Galatians 3:28).
