Abstract
  • This project studies the impact on a sermon's effectiveness when the intended main point is stated propositionally. It uses a didactic sermon form and employs the control group method of research. The project shows that stating the sermon's intended main point in a propositional sentence in the first paragraph positively influences the effectiveness of some sermons. A secondary finding is that some illustrative material significantly influences sermon effectiveness. The project concludes that the potential effectiveness of intentional didactic preaching in the local church makes it worth the effort.
