Abstract
  • The thesis of this study is that pastors are in a key position to be of significant help to those who suffer from depression, but that the clergy have been ill-equipped to help such people. The study used a case history method involving four cases drawn from the author's work as a hospital chaplain and as a pastoral counselor. The histories were preceded by a theoretical investigation of the condition of depression and of pastoral assessment and treatment concerns. It was concluded that there is a great deal which pastors can do to help depressed persons.
