Abstract
  • This project assesses the ministry of chaplains in a mid-size rehabilitation hospital that is undergoing change and implementing procedures for quality assurance. Through the administration of a questionnaire, a survey of the literature, meetings with members of the hospital staff and volunteers who interviewed patients, nine issues of concern surfaced and were acted upon by the pastoral care staff. These issues dealt with: patient visitation, handling patients' complaints about administration and staff, providing counseling and liturgical services for staff, chaplain availability to patients, staff and patient education, documentation, relations with local clergy, and continuing education for the pastoral care staff.
