  • This project briefly examines the origin and development of lectionaries and the issues accompanying the expanded use of the Revised Common Lectionary. Recognizing the importance of the scriptures in shaping the community of faith, questions are raised around issues of selection, arrangement, parameters of lections and the relationship between lections. In addition, the issue of what biblical material is not included in the lectionary becomes important. The content of the non-lectionary biblical material is identified and summarized chapter by chapter. Thematic and hermeneutic issues are examined. The author concludes with recommendations for thoughtful users of the lectionary in worship and for preaching.
