- The purpose of this project is to provide a means of helping Signum Fidei members in the Philippines develop a 'spirit of faith' via correspondence. Faith mentoring is understood as accompaniment that assists in vocational, relational and spiritual growth. Following Sandra Matthei's model for faith mentoring, three dimension of faith mentoring are discussed (incarnational, contextual, relational) and four roles explored (guide, guarantor, model, mediator). The method of addressing each correspondent was informed by social analysis concerning Filipino cultural values and Charles Taylor's three stage metanoia model. The study concluded that faith mentoring works best under the following conditions: 1) correspondence is a continuance of a relationship rather than the beginning of one; 2) the correspondent has ready access to confidential, easy-to-use email at school or preferably at home; and 3) the faith mentor is committed to a supervisory relationship, observing professional boundaries in a culture characterized by dual relationships.
