  • The issue is the polarity between the rich and the poor and why the oppressed understand the Bible and the Christian faith differently from affluent Christians. Vulnerability, loss, and grief are universal phenomena providing a key to analysis of the issue. Correlation is done between the individual experience of grief with collective data regarding the Old Testament experience, the Black American experience, and research into episodes of mass trauma. Insights from these studies are applied in an analysis of a particular ministry to the homeless. An act of ministry is proposed as a constructive approach to the problem of homelessness.
