- This study assessed the impact of a stroke of either hemisphere of the brain on the expression of religious feelings. Forty subjects, mean age 65.85 years, 20 left and 20 right hemisphere stroke-damaged were administered the Religious Inventory Questionnaire (RIQ, Harsch, 1980) to assess feelings about self, God and communicating with God; and the MMPI to assess psychological pathology. The results indicated that the left hemisphere damaged patients were consistently more negative than right hemisphere damaged patients on all three levels of the RIQ, however, without pathological levels. MMPI results indicated no hemispheric differences or depression elevators.
