Abstract
  • A training program was developed at the Greene Church of the Nazarene to help members better understand and respond to suffering. Each of the six sessions included prayer, worship, teaching, discussions, devotional material, and weekly assignments. The nineteen participants (five men and fourteen women) ranged in age from the mid-forties to the mid-eighties. Class members showed improvement in handling their own feelings about suffering, in their understanding of the importance of the Body of Christ ministering to each other's emotional and spiritual needs, and in skills in responding to their own and others' suffering. Implications for future training are presented.
