  • Eleven adults participated in an eighteen-month small group spiritual formation course and were then interviewed with a qualitative research protocol to identify processes and dynamics of spiritual formation. The course explored the Biblical call to transformation, stages of faith development, and twelve spiritual disciplines (solitude, silence, practicing the presence of Christ, fasting, secrecy, physicality and spirituality, Christian meditation, study, simplicity, rest, practicing justice, and perseverance). Findings included nine themes of reflective spirituality; eight factors that influence spiritual formation; and insights about specific spiritual disciplines and Christ-likeness.
