Abstract
  • Appropriating the grief process through the use of trained volunteer grief counselors is the guiding purpose of this project. The author gathered data from biblical, theological, sociological, and psychological sources in order to design a training manual for training local church volunteers to minister as grief counselors. Volunteers were selected by their minister and trained to understand the dynamics of grief, to counsel, and to make referrals when their counseling skills were limited. Part I explains the dynamics of grief. Part II presents the training manual. Part III gives the training process and the evaluation of the training.
