- Abstract
- This pilot project has demonstrated that pastoral intervention emphasizing hope and meaning affects the recovery of people who have experienced a cardiac crisis. It was grounded in the Genesis pericope in which Jacob wrestled with the ish at the Jabbok, which set cardiac crisis in the context of a life-and-death confrontation. Evaluation utilized a 'purpose in life' test given to a treatment group after participating in rehabilitation using pastoral intervention, and to a control group who had not experienced cardiac crisis. It showed that those who wrestle hold the capacity for making meaning and obtaining blessing from their experience.
