  • Part I examines pastoral, personal and social forces influencing attitudes. Part II describes research conducted by means of convenience sampling using a 103-item questionnaire among 451 active Protestants and Roman Catholics fifty-five years of age and older in a midwestern community. Factor analysis determined five dimensions of religiosity named orthodoxy, personal faith, treatment, satisfaction with life, and dissatisfaction with life. Comparison and correlation of factors and items found a positive attitude about life and more so about congregations. Men want to feel more useful to their congregations. Recent retirement more negatively influences attitudes than other losses examined.
