  • The phenomenon addressed in this study was the experience of eleven pastors of Lutheran Church-Canada who left their church for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada because of disagreements in theology and practice. The author studied their decisions, their theological and practical motivations, their experience in transition, and the short-term outcome of their decisions. The author, a pastor of Lutheran Church-Canada, used the heuristic theory of qualitative research methodology. Relying on symbolism and metaphor the researcher explored issues of legalism and gospel freedom by persons forced to make difficult decisions.
