  • Throughout the history of the African American community, the African American church has played the most formative role in that community's religious, social and political life. Though some contend that the Black church was born only out of social protest, it can be argued that the birth, foundation, and growth of the Black church are rooted in theological presupposition as well as social protest. As we view the plight of Black America today, the call is for the African American church to reclaim her history and tell her story in order to empower both the church and the community.
