Abstract
  • The practicum tested the thesis that a form of the early Methodist class meeting may be a significant means of leading, guiding and supporting church members in the practice of Christian discipleship. The method was that of establishing in Trinity United Methodist Church, Roswell, NM, two small groups, each of which used the basic format of the early Methodist class meeting as the model for its weekly meetings. The written project discusses the rationale and the practical aspects of the experimental class meetings, including the development of spiritual disciplines. The author feels the practicum demonstrates that a Wesleyan style class can be significant in helping church members practice discipleship.
