  • The theological principle informing this thesis is that the church is the people of God who are claimed, called and commissioned to engage in caring ministries to a world in need. In this community of faith persons are empowered to minister in the midst of their own finitude and sense of brokenness, and discover God's strength in their apparent weakness. The implicit challenge in this model is for the church to discover ways in which persons can continue to hear God's call in the ambiguity of their lives and find ever new and creative ways to respond to the living God on their own faith journey. The anticipated outcome from the interventions is that through formal teaching of caregivers and leading a grief-recovery support group program with this particular faith community, that the overall climate to engage in and receive pastoral care by laity will be improved.
