  • 'Helps' (1 Corinthians 12:28) are part of local church helping ministries. Understanding helping ministries comprises one aspect of practical theology. Christian social responsibility calls for development of service gifts for doing good to persons outside as well as within the church body (Galatians 6:10). Biblical, theological and historical roots of helping persons in need undergird methods and procedures of implementation. Helping and loving for Jesus' sake include counseling, material assistance, and the use of referrals, as opportunity arises (Ephesians 5:16). Recruitment, mobilization and training for effective helping follow as each Christian participates in helping ministries as a normal part of service.
