- This dissertation explores how single International Mission Board missionaries respond to stressors on the field, and how their organization and home church help them manage stress. An online survey covered the sources and symptoms of stress, coping strategies utilized, and the effectiveness of resources. Overall trends were identified, as well as differences in gender, age, and field location. The primary stressor was high expectations of oneself or feeling inadequate. Although their physical and emotional symptoms showed that they were significantly impacted by stress, they responded in healthy ways. Recommendations for minimizing stress were made to missionaries, the organization, and churches.
