In response to problems in the short-term missions movement, the author argues theologically that discipleship precedes apostleship. Discipling is identified as essential preparation for short-term missioners and teams. 50 short-term missioners serving in small teams over four years were oriented to mission on growth in areas of worship, vocation, prayer, kingdom-consciousness, witness, dependency, kinship, service and stewardship, they reported strong agreement that this preparation had a lasting, formative, positive and spiritual impact on them in the areas identified.
