- Abstract
- This project examines the ways in which scriptural resources from the Jerusalem disaster of the sixth century BCE were used by New Orleanians in dealing with the Katrina disaster of 2005 and beyond. Trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder in the experience of disasters, especially as they relate to loss of place, are studied. Identification with place and the loss of place in the Katrina disaster are examined, specifically at Grace Episcopal Church and the Mid-City neighborhood. The project concludes showing how through the development of personal and community narratives, healing can begin by engaging community, scripture, liturgy, meditation, and interactive art.
