Abstract
  • Lay speaking has a long heritage. This project briefly recounts the history of that lay involvement in American Methodism. It further provides a synopsis of the evolution of the lay speaking program in general and in the Baltimore North District in particular. The first chapter concludes with the principles of religious education undergirding the newly-designed lay speaking classes. Those courses are described in chapters II and III. Chapter IV reports on the programs offered in the other districts. The paper concludes with an evaluation of the ten districts' programs and suggestions for standardization throughout the Conference.
