  • This project examines the preaching of five pastors in Holston Presbytery to determine what elements of the brain-body's neurobiological operating systems, as defined by Dr. Barbara Given, are present. These operating systems are emotion, social interaction, cognitive functioning, physiological learning, and reflective insights. Beyond the presence of these five systems, this project seeks to determine how often these five areas are interrelated in the preaching event. The research shows that while different systems are present in each preaching event, there is very little use of all five systems collectively.
